As hop production continues to expand across Ontario, more and more, growers are looking for information to increase their product quality through better management practices and marketing opportunities. Many enquiries by interested growers focus on the potential of growing hops organically.
This year, the Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Convention will once again feature a hop session in the morning of Wednesday, Feb 21, 2018 followed by the Great Ontario Hopped Craft Beer Competition (and hop rub) in the afternoon. Much of the morning session will focus on organic hop production, however, all hop growers will find the content useful for crop management and marketing. One of our featured guests, Joris Cambie of De Plukker Hop Farm Brewery in Blegium, will be speaking in sessions on both Wednesday and Thursday – don’t miss out!

This year, the GOHCBC’s beer style is the Black IPA. New to the competition will be ongoing commentary from the judges panel during the competition. We will also be attempting to show real-time, blind, scores so audience participants have a better understanding of the beer attributes being noted such as aroma, appearance, flavour, mouthfeel, and overall impression.
The judging panel is honored to welcome Joris Cambie of De Plukker Hop Farm Brewery, Belgium as a guest judge for 2018. In 2017, Joris was inducted as a Knight of the Order of the Hop during the International Hop Growers’ Convention/International Hop Congress in Yakima, Washington, USA. He will be speaking in multiple sessions during the OFVC.
As always, a hop rub featuring hops from each of the competition’s grower participants will be on display for audience members to learn more about and enjoy Ontario grown hops.
